Remove garbage bags or loose debris. Use a pressure washer or hose to thoroughly rinse the trash can. Mix your Simple Green solution in a bucket. The next step is to rinse the can with water.
If you have outdoor space, the easiest way to rinse your can is to use a garden hose outside. Otherwise, you can take your trash can to the bathroom and rinse it in the tub. Sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the bin when you change the bag. Baking soda is a natural, inexpensive deodorant that's also great at absorbing spills.
Throw it away before cleaning the bin. As with cleaning recycling bins, you can use a pressure washer or hose with a spray nozzle for this step. But how often do you take a good look inside? And when was the last time you took steps to clean the bin or disinfect it? Keep in mind that just because you can't see (or smell) germs doesn't mean they're not there, as a general rule, it's a good idea to thoroughly clean the trash can at least once a month, or more often in the event of a leak or unpleasant odor. To remove clumped dirt, use a clean toilet brush (or any nylon brush) to scrub, add more solution or a few drops of dish soap for particularly stubborn stains.
I immediately told him that I knew there was a service that would come and clean the outside garbage cans and that I would call them as soon as I spoke to him on the phone. Use your cleaning solution to spray the inside and outside of the bin, making sure to remove the cover if there is one. If you plan to clean your trash can a couple of times a month, you can sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the bin to neutralize odors, just be careful that it builds up and creates a mess if you don't clean the can often. If you need a more abrasive cleaner, make a paste with water and baking soda to use with the scrubbing brush.
Cleaning the kitchen trash can is an easily overlooked household chore, but things get ugly there quickly. One way to help reduce the burden of cleaning dogs is to pick them up when they go out in public because there are bacteria in dogs' feces that can make other animals sick. Trash cans can get quite dirty, so simply spraying them is probably not enough to actually clean them. This step is optional, but if you want to make sure your trash can is germ-free, spray the inside and outside of the trash can with a disinfectant cleaner of your choice.
Nogales-Hernandez recommends a product such as Lysol or Clorox. To avoid touching the trash and refill your freshly cleaned can with the same dirty trash, you may want to wait to clean your trash can after the usual garbage collection day. Even though scrubbing a smelly trash can may not be something you want to do, the good news is that cleaning the trash can isn't really a difficult task. If you don't regularly see something like the inside of your fridge drawers, oven, or pantry shelves, you're probably less likely to clean it regularly.
